A New MMA Gym is coming to Buford GA!
Buford is packed with some of the biggest businesses and services in GA including the largest Mall in the State but, until now it has lacked a truly professional MMA Gym and elite level fitness facility.
Gentry’s MMA & Fitness will be opening it’s doors on April 1, 2013. We are moving from Lawrenceville, GA to Buford, GA and we’ll be the only MMA Gym in Buford GA and one of the best choices in the State.
Gentry’s MMA & Fitness offers a number of classes in both fitness and martial arts for men women and children but, MMA is what we are talking about here. When choosing an MMA Gym there are a few things to think about.
A true MMA Gym is not a gym where you walk in the door and fight everyday. That is what I call a tough man gym. The reason being is only the tough survive and most never really learn anything except how to take a punch. If you are looking for a place to beat on people daily there are a number of other places I can refer you to.
At Gentry’s MMA & Fitness, we pride ourselves in being true to the Budo Lifestyle. The word Budo has a few translations but, the one we believe to fit best is “The way of the Warrior”. The people that study war and warriors know that success lies in the strategy and technique more than anything else. Take the movie 300 for example. I think that movie makes everyone hype but, if you really think about it those Spartan’s weren’t just a bunch of bad asses. They were highly skilled and repetition is the mother of all skill. That means to become good at something you must do it over and over again. So, let’s take something simple like a single leg takedown as an example. If I want to master the single leg takedown and incorporate it into my arsenal, I will need to do it over and over and over until it becomes second nature. At first, I will need to start on someone that just allows me to do it with no resistance. Then resistance can be added until I master the entry, the control and the finish on a live opponent at full speed. Does that make sense??? Good!!! So the opposite of that is going to a gym where all the do is spar. How am I going to develop skills or techniques if every minute of every training session I find myself in different position??? You can do it but, it will take MUCH MUCH LONGER than the proven training system we use here at Gentry’s MMA & Fitness!!!
When looking for a new MMA Gym be sure not to get caught up in the whole tough guy thing. It won’t help you improve as a fighter. Just look at the most elite level competitors today like Anderson Silva, Jon Jones, Jose Aldo and GSP. They are ALL students of the game and they all live the Budo Lifestyle.
