Snack Time Crunch – Kale Chips
Working out is great! We all want to reach our fitness goals, and be at peak performance level. When pushing in the gym, it tends to fuel our hunger as well! Many times we find ourselves reaching for a snack, so why not make it a snack that will aid you in your efforts.
You may already know that Kale is a food that packs a healthy punch. With only 36 calories in one cup, and zero grams of fat, it can be the perfect snack that won’t derail your progress. Kale is not only rich in antioxidants, vitamins A, C, K, and a good source of fiber, it is also helpful in detoxifying, used as an anti-inflammatory, cancer-fighter, and a good support for cardiovascular health. Baked Kale Chips are a fun way to incorporate it into your diet, and give yourself a healthy alternative to that oily calorie ladden bag of chips hiding in the kitchen.
Baked Kale Chips:
What you will need:
2 Bunches of Kale
1-2 Tablespoons of olive oil or avocado oil (both full of healthy fats)
Your favorite seasoning salt
Tip: Before you start you want to make sure you wash your Kale thoroughly. Rinse and repeat multiple times, till all excess dirt is removed. Using a salad spinner will help you to remove the dirt quickly.
- Dry your Kale. You want it to be VERY dry.
- Cut the leaves away from the stems.
- Chop Kale into bite size pieces (or slightly larger)
- Mix your oil and Kale together in a bowl till all the leaves are evenly coated.
- Arrange your Kale on a nonstick baking sheet, ensuring that none of the leaves are folded over.
Bake it at 350°F for 12 minutes. You want to keep a close eye on it, and pull it out as soon as it is done. If you over bake them they will be bitter.
Lastly season, sprinkle the chips lightly with your favorite seasoning. Enjoy!
This is a great snack when those salty cravings hit, and if you are busy and on the go you can always portion them out into Ziploc bags or other containers, to take with you, that way a healthy treat is always within arm’s reach!
