Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Tournament Results

Rush Cup – Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Results

This past Saturday, Gentry’s MMA & Fitness brought a small crew of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competitors from Buford down to Macon GA to represent the Alliance BJJ Team while competing at the Rush Cup.

Our crew consisted of six guys:

  • Manny Aparaschivei
  • Ryan Martin
  • Jared “My Bad” Gooden
  • Thandi “T” Turner
  • Sean “The Corporal” Coleman
  • Joshua “Hot Sauce” Chavez

Everyone fought hard and did well.  As a team we came home with 2 golds, 2 silvers and 2 bronze medals.  The coolest thing about it though, is that half of our guys were either competing for the first time or competing for the first time at their particular belt.

Manny and Ryan are brand new white belts and this was Jared’s first tournament at Blue.  Between the 3 of them, they brought home 4 medals.

Sean Coleman and T were in the same division and Sean Coleman took home the gold.  He won the finals match with beautiful form, finishing his opponent with the clock choke.

This was Chavez’s second Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournament at purple belt.  Unfortunately, there weren’t a lot of purple belts to compete against so his division turned into an absolute (all weights) division in which he was the smallest guy. All things considered, his silver medal was a solid accomplishment.

In Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, you either win or you learn and sometimes both. Every mistake made is amplified and every victory is the sweetest taste ever.

I was at a neighborhood get together on Saturday night after the tournament and a conversation came up regarding what is the greatest feeling in the world. There were numerous examples including marriage, kids being born and the like.  As the conversation went on it became apparent that everyone that had ever competed in any type of individual sport agreed on one thing.  There no better feeling in the world than having your hand raised.

Gentry’s MMA & Fitness is Gwinnett’s Premier MMA & Fitness facility and the only Training Center in Gwinnett to host the 8x Brazilian Jiu Jitsu team, Alliance BJJ.  There are numerous people from all over Buford, Suwanee, Lawrenceville, Flowery Branch, Dacula and the surrounding areas that love training here.  Come try out a free session today!!!
