Stretching is one of the things you will learn in the Suwanee Yoga Classes. When done right, stretching can help you as an athlete and it provides you with a feeling of relaxation. The goal when stretching is to be able to gradually increase your movement over time. Stretching should also be slow and progressive.

Here are some reasons to learn to stretch in the Suwanee Yoga Classes-
>> Stretching increases flexibility. Flexibility gradually declines as we grow older, but stretching can help prevent that.
>> Stretching increases the range of motion for your joints. This is helpful for any athlete because it reduces the risk of injury when working out.
>> Certain stretches can help improve your balance
>> Stress can cause your muscles to become tense which can have negative effects on your body. Stretching can help you relieve that muscle tension caused by stress.
>> Stretching increases circulation to your muscles.
>> Anyone who trains Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has had some kind of lower back pain at one point and time. Stretching muscles such as the quadriceps, hamstrings, lower back muscles and hip flexors will help alleviate some of this pain.
Now that you know the benefits of learning to stretch in the Suwanee Yoga Classes, here is what you should avoid when stretching-
>> Avoid static stretching before you work out. Stretching before you work out increases the risk for injuries. It is better to do a warm-up to get your muscles loose and stretch after your workout to relieve any muscle tension.
>> Avoid bouncy and jerky movements when stretching.
>> You should feel tension when you stretch, but not pain. It is important to know the difference.
>> Don’t hold a stretch for too long. (about 30 seconds is enough)
>> Don’t forget to breathe. Holding your breath interferes with the relaxation of the muscle(s) that you are stretching.
>> Make sure to stretch both sides of your body. Don’t stretch one side and neglect the other.
Stretching is extremely important and is often neglected or done improperly. Get into the habit of stretching correctly now and your body will be thanking you later. If you have any questions about the Suwanee Yoga Classes, then feel free to give us a call at 770-277-8741.
