What exactly is CrossFit?
CrossFit? CrossFit is right. It is one of the fitness classes offered here at Gentry’s MMA and Fitness and it is a great way to get in shape. It is a program that anyone can do, from MMA fighters to the average Joe.
Well what exactly do you do in CrossFit and why is it called that?
Well it is a fitness class where the workouts vary from day to day. (hence the “x” for all you math majors out there) In those workouts you will measure your progress via personal records such as reps, time, and weight.
By doing this, you will always have a goal that you can work towards. You are always competing against yourself and maybe even other people in the CrossFit class (friendly competition that is). There will be a reason to improve whether it be one more rep, a new max, or a new time.
Improving what exactly?
Improving speed, agility, endurance, and strength. The CrossFit program is designed in a way to help you build muscle and lose fat, just like any other fitness program. But it’s main focus is functional training, which, unfortunately, is overlooked in many fitness programs.
Functional training is what it sounds like. It provides you with speed, agility, endurance, and strength that you can use in your everyday life. For a competing athlete, it can provide you with energy to go the extra distance. All that hard work you put in won’t just be to look better, it’ll be to feel better and to perform better.
Never again will you be exhausted after mowing the lawn, carrying in groceries, or walking up a flight of stairs!
The CrossFit program is designed to give you the ability to tackle your day head on without the fear of running out of energy by the end of the day.
